"Brick-gate" has caused Apple's standing to seriously dip in their customers' eyes. A company's relationship with this group of customers (who can be so beneficial but also detrimental to the company) should be nurtured so they don't turn on the brand when these type of situations arise. If Steve Jobs brought a handful of influential bloggers into his office and explained the situation completely (AT&T exclusivity, etc), Apple could've probably avoided a lot of the negative publicity their receiving now. At least their moves would've been better understood in the marketplace.
